   December 1947: Ahmet Ertegun and Herb Abramson starts Atlantic Records which will become the biggest R&B label in history.

   Herb Abramson and his wife Miriam were close friends with fellow jazz buff Ahmet Erteg'n and together they founded Atlantic Records in 1947. Abramson was president of Atlantic and Ahmet was vice-president. Both Abramson and Ahmet handled the creative end of the business and Miriam handled the business end.

Dusty Fletcher - Open The Door Richard, 1947

   "Open The Door Richard" becomes the smash of the year with five different artists hitting the Top Three on the R&B Charts with a version, including its writer Dusty Fletcher. The comical song about a drunk trying to get into his apartment while his roommate is there with a woman signal a loosening of sexual mores, which become an R&B hallmark.
