The Drifters, The Midnighters, R&B hits, March 1954
The Midnighters [formerly knows as The Royals] cause waves when their off-color "Work With Me Annie" [April 24, 1954] and its equally suggestive sequels become the most popular R&B records of the year resulting in many communities calling for complete bans on rock 'n' roll. Among those records targeted for widespread bans are Clyde McPhatter & The Drifters explicit "Honey Love" [June 19, 1954] and "Such A Night" [March 13, 1954] and the Midnighters (formerly The Royals) "Sexy Ways" [July 10, 1954]. Despite this they all become massive R&B hits.
